Chapter 9

“She turned us down,” Lizeth said, looking over to Darrius.

“That is strange, she looked so eager to get it,” Darrius said.

“Well, that leaves Gabby,” Darrius said.

“I already left her the message that we went with someone else,” Lizeth said.

“I don’t think it matters, we did like her as well,” Darrius said.

“Yes, she was a sweetheart,” Lizeth said.

“Well, I will give her a call then,” Darrius said.

“Yes, do it in the morning,” Lizeth said.

“I just want to have a peaceful sleep,” Lizeth said.

“I want you to have that too,” Darrius said.

“Maybe I will tonight,” Lizeth said.

“Can I ask you something?” Darrius asked.

“Ok, it sounds serious,” Lizeth said trying to read his face.

Do you still blame me?” Darrius asked.

“What are you talking about?” Lizeth asked.

“For everything I know I am at fault but do you still blame me or not trust me,” Darrius said.

“I don’t want to talk about this,” Lizeth said walking towards her kitchen.

“Lizeth we need to talk about this,” Darrius said following her.

“Please some other time,” Lizeth said.

“Tonight, we have to do this,” Darrius said. Lizeth sat down at the kitchen table and Darrius joined her.

“Ok, I do blame you still and I still am struggling with trusting you,” Lizeth said.

“What can I do?” Darrius asked.

“I don’t know,” Lizeth said.

“Well, I will start here, I have something to tell you,” Darrius said. Lizeth gave him a puzzled look. “I have been seeing someone for some years now,” Darrius said.

“What!” Lizeth said.

“No, not like that. I have been seeing a therapist,” Darrius said.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Lizeth asked.

“I didn’t know how but my therapist suggested I tell you about it,” Darrius said.

“So, I am listening,” Lizeth said.

“Well, I never told you about my time in that institution,” Darrius said.

“I figured you didn’t want to,” Lizeth said.

“It felt more like I was a guinea pig than actually getting help in there,” Darrius said. “There was a doctor who was there who would just give you medication, put you in a room and just stand behind a window and watch you as if he was waiting on something,” Darrius said.

“Why you didn’t you complain to someone?” Lizeth asked.

“I did with a fellow patient, I got rather close with her. Then before I knew it, I was being moved to a new location,” Darrius said.

“That was a good thing, right?” Lizeth said.

“I guess so. At the other place I was not given medication, I was just taught exercises to cope and I felt better there anyway,” Darrius said.

“That had to be traumatic for you,” Lizeth said.

“It was, but I am glad it’s over,” Darrius said.

“Well I want to tell you about my dreams,” Lizeth said.

“I know you’re having nightmares,” Darrius said.

“No, I want to tell you what the nightmare is. It’s me walking to the front door, no one is there so I close the door, then when I turn around, Sam is there with a gun and she says ‘I told you it won’t be that easy’ and shoots me,” Lizeth said.
